EURASHE is the European Association for the Applied Sciences in Higher Education, the leading voice for applied sciences and professional higher education in Europe. With over 70 members from across Europe and beyond, EURASHE advocates for the interests of more than 500 applied higher education institutions. Founded in 1990, EURASHE has a mission to promote the value of applied higher education at both national and European levels. It is committed to fostering international cooperation and enhancing the global engagement of its member institutions. Through these efforts, EURASHE contributes to the advancement of higher education and research, and in particular its role in meeting societal and economic challenges.

The aims of EURASHE are:

  • to contribute to the creation of a European Higher Education Area (EHEA), European Education Area (EEA) European Research Area (ERA) by influencing policy-making at the European level on issues pertaining to applied higher education;
  • to represent its members’ common interests at European level, as well as outside the EHEA;
  • to promote applied higher education in the EHEA, EEA and ERA;
  • to provide members with a platform for communication, information and exchange of views, with a focus on issues relevant to the future development of higher education;
  • to ensure and safeguard cooperation between the members of the Association;
  • to achieve cooperation in the field of higher education by establishing close links with other organisations that have similar objectives.

 

To achieve its aims, EURASHE deploys activities such as:

  • membership representation, notably towards European institutions, authorities and stakeholders;
  • publication of policy papers and the introduction of sectoral messages;
  • organisation of networking activities, learning events, conferences and seminars;
  • facilitating the EURASHE Communities of Practice;
  • dissemination of information;
  • partnership with stakeholder organisations in higher education;
  • involvement in projects.

EURASHE’s priorities align with the critical objectives outlined in the Bologna Process, reinforcing the shared mission of enhancing quality, accessibility, and relevance in higher education across Europe. Their focus on innovative, high-quality professional teaching and learning complements the Bologna commitment to student-centred education, ensuring learners acquire future-proof skills for a rapidly changing world. The emphasis on the three-cycle system, quality assurance through ESG, and recognition of qualifications aligns with EURASHE’s ongoing efforts to promote a quality culture in applied higher education. EURASHE’s support for flexible learning paths, micro-credentials, and lifelong learning mirrors the Bologna Process's commitment to making education more inclusive and responsive to societal needs. Together, these shared goals strengthen the role of higher education in driving social innovation and responding to challenges such as the dual green and digital transitions.
