The Thematic Peer Group D on Social Dimension supports the effective implementation and monitoring of the Principles and Guidelines to Strengthen the Social Dimension of Higher Education in the EHEA, adopted by the ministers in 2020. It plays a key role in measuring progress towards these commitments, promotes peer-learning among member states and consultative members, and contributes to reporting on their implementation.
The group was created as a follow-up of the Tirana Ministerial Conference to continue the efforts of the previous Working Groups on Social Dimension (2018-2020 and 2021-2024).
In the Tirana Communiqué, the ministers committed to tackle the socio-economic challenges of students, such as the rising cost of living and difficulty to access student housing, by ensuring accessible student support services, inclusive learning environments (including digital ones), gender equality, as well as measures to support students in covering indirect costs of study.
As achieving an inclusive EHEA by 2030 is one of the three overarching political commitments agreed in the Rome Communiqué, the group aims to support ongoing progress in strengthening equity and inclusion within the EHEA.
