The First Bologna Policy Forum took place in Louvain-la-Neuve the 29th April 2009.

Introduction

An increasing number of countries around the world have shown their interest to be involved in a dialogue with the countries participating in the Bologna Process on how worldwide cooperation in higher education can be enhanced. At the same time there is growing interest among European countries to develop closer links with higher education systems around the world. Therefore, for the first time, a Bologna Policy Forum was organised between Ministers of the 46 Bologna countries and colleagues from different parts of the world to facilitate global dialogue.

This Bologna Policy Forum took place on 29 April 2009 at the University of Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) in the framework of the 2009 Bologna Ministerial Conference. Next to the countries and organisations participating in the Bologna Process were represented: Australia, Brazil, Canada, P.R. China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Tunisia, and the U.S., as well as the International Association of Universities.
Issues addressed included, among others, recognition of qualifications; exchange of teachers, researchers, and students; as well as quality assurance.

The next Bologna Policy Forum will take place in Vienna on 12 March 2010.
